My Whole Life
lyrics by José María Contursi
Today, after so much time
of not seeing you, of not talking to you,
already tired of searching for you
always, always,
I feel that I am dying
because of your forgetting, slowly,
and on the cold of my forehead
you will not leave your kisses.
I know that you have loved me a lot,
as much, as much as I—
but then again, I have suffered
much, much more than you.
I don’t know why I lost you,
I don’t even know when it was,
but I left at your side
my whole life,
and today when you are far from me
and you have managed to forget,
I am a passage in your life, nothing more.
Orquesta Aníbal Troilo, singer Francisco Fiorentino
(Spanish original after the jump)
Toda mi vida
Hoy, después de tanto tiempo
de no verte, de no hablarte,
ya cansado de buscarte
siempre, siempre,
siento que me voy muriendo
por tu olvido, lentamente,
y en el frío de mi frente
tus besos no dejarás.
Sé que mucho me has querido
tanto, tanto como yo—
pero en cambio, yo he sufrido
mucho, mucho más que vos.
No sé porque te perdí,
tampoco sé cuándo fue,
pero a tu lado dejé
toda mi vida,
y hoy que estás lejos de mí
y has conseguido olvidar,
soy un pasaje de tu vida, nada más.
I adore this tango! Troilo’s later version with El Pollaco singing is really nice to listen to. The Fiorentino version is easier to dance to.
